Atmospheric Correction Module
Fast Line-of-sight Atmospheric
Analysis of Spectral Hypercubes
FLAASH was developed by Spectral Sciences, Inc., a world leader in optical
phenomenology research, in collaboration with U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)
and Spectral Information Technology Application Center (SITAC) personnel. Spectral
Sciences has been integral to the development of modern atmospheric radiation transfer
models, and has worked extensively in collaboration with AFRL personnel on MODTRAN since
its inception in 1989.
Accuracy and Convenience
- Correct multispectral and hyperspectral images.
- Remove the obscuring effects of the atmosphere more accurately than ever before.
- Correct data from any hyperspectral sensor that measures near infrared wavelengths.
- Correct your images for atmospheric water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone,
and molecular and aerosol scattering.
- Produce useful auxiliary information, including a column water vapor image, a cloud map,
and a visibility value for the scene.
- Correct images collected in either vertical (nadir) or slant viewing geometries.
- Run FLAASH from its easy-to-use ENVI interface. FLAASH is available exclusively as a
plug-in to the ENVI image processing software by Research Systems.
An Unprecedented Algorithm
- Handle challenging atmospheric conditions such as clouds, haze, and conditions varying
across an image with state-of-the-art techniques.
- Profit from the very latest MODTRAN radiation transfer code. A unique MODTRAN solution
is computed for each image.
- Take advantage of the wealth of information contained in hyperspectral imagery, by
having FLAASH calculate an independent correction for each pixel.
- Minimize artifacts commonly seen in results from other algorithms with FLAASH's
easy-to-use, innovative, and adjustable spectral polishing.
- Correct for the mixing of radiance among adjacent pixels caused by atmospheric
scattering (i.e., the adjacency effect).
- Apply a wavelength calibration to hyperspectral images as part of the FLAASH correction.
